October 1927

Communication With Dead.
Conisborough Vicar Opposed to Mr. W. Appleyard.

The Conisborough Parish Church was crowded last night, when the Vicar, the Rev H. Lee, in his sermon referred to the criticism the Church made by Mr. W. Appleyard, of Sheffield, when’ addressing the Conisborough Literary and Debating Society last week on the subject of “Spiritualism.”

The Vicar approved the view the Bishop of Sheffield, who had been taken to task by Mr. Appleyard for saying that they should not make inquiries into matters which were not revealed to them.

The Vicar last night said that he personally did not desire for knowledge of communication with the departed other than that which Christianity taught them.
