Concert at Clifton
On Thursday week a grand concert was given in aid of the funds of the Cricket Club. The room, which was neatly decorated, was well filled. The event was a success which is a matter of congratulation to the committee, also to Mr. and Mrs. Hall, who, with the former, worked very assiduously.
A duet by Mr. and Mrs. Hertmann was a capital opening. Miss C. Blakeley, who always pleases, ably sang “The Children’s Home.”
The comic element, introduced by Mr. Schofield, was a decided treat, and his two songs, “Our Happy Home” and “Future Mrs. Hawkins,” were splendidly rendered.
“Dolly’s Revenge,” by Miss Fuller, was a pretty song well rendered.
Mr. Barron showed good taste in his song “The Blackthorn,” as also did Miss Spencer in “Banbury Cross.”
A negro sketch was given with much effect.
“Our Country Concert,” by Mr. Bradley, was a pleasing item.
“Queen of My Heart,” by Mr. Hertmann, was a tit-bit, and the singer scored a success.
Miss May Bradley’s rendering of “Pa and Ma” was a rich treat and she was deservedly encored, “The Worst Girl in the School” being the substitute.
Part II was introduced by Mr. Hertmann giving “Winding Walk” with much taste.
Mr. Bradley tickled the audience by his rendition of “She Trotted Me Off to Church,” which received a deafening encore.
“Turnham Toll,” by Miss Blakely, was sung with this lady’s accustomed taste and ability.
“Molly Maloney” was pleasingly given by Mr. Barron.
Miss Fuller so pleased by her tasteful singing of “To-morrow Will Do” as to warrant an encore.
Mr. Schofield again brought down the house by his comicalities and was loudly encored.
“Ada’s Serenade” will long be remembered by all who heard it.
Miss Spencer’s “Kissing Bridge” was much enjoyed, as also was “Good Company” by Mrs. Hertmann.
Mr. Beardsley, of Denaby, and Mrs. Hertmann, of Braithwell, officiated as accompanists.
A successful concert was concluded by the singing of the National Anthem.
