Conisboro’ Gas

Complaint at District Council Meeting

A monthly meeting of the Doncaster Rural District Council was held on Tuesday at the Union Offices, Mr. R. Coward presiding over a large attendance. The local members present were Messrs. H. Baker, T. Harrison, W. Hardy, W. Appleyard, R. Snow, W. H. Chambers, Waite, W. Dodson.

There was an intimation to the effect that April 4th was the date fixed for the election of Rural District Councillors and Guardians.

Conisboro’ Gas

At a meeting of the Sanitary Committee a letter dated Jan. 5th, was read from the Yorkshire Electric Power Company, at present authorised to supply electric power in the Rural District, and stating that they propose to apply for powers to give a supply of electric light, and asking for the support of the Council.

A further letter, dated Jan. 19th, was read, giving the names of 18 local authorities who were willing to support their Bill, and it was recommended that the Council favour an application by the Yorkshire Electric Power Co. for lighting powers, and authorise the Clerk to support the company’s application if called on to do so, subject to section 49 of the Companies’ Act of 1901 being extended to the new Powers, for the protection of the Rural District Council.

Mr. Harrison proposed that this recommendation be adopted, and Mr. Baker, in seconding, said he did it more particularly because it affected Conisboro’, where now, at present, had a rotten supply of gas.
