Conisboro’ Joint Hospital Board.

Appointment of Nurses.

The usual monthly meeting of the Conisboro’ Joint Hospital Board was held on Wednesday afternoon at the Isolation Hospital. Mr. J. Clayton presided and was supported by Alderman J. Watson, Messrs Athron., Baker, Wood. and Appleyard. the Medical Officer (Dr… McClure), and the Clerk (Mr. Marshall).

The Bentley Order.

The Clerk said he had received a formal letter from the Local Government Board, forwarding a copy of the order of the Bentley and Arksey inclusion.

It dealt fully with the matter, and had been advertised in two local papers, in accordance with the regulations.

The Hospital Alterations.

Concerning the repairs which had been done to the hospital, Mr. White. the Contractor had been over the work, and he wrote to the Board to say that he considered they had been finished very satisfactorily. The life of the buildings was now prolonged for many years to come.

There were about ten tons of stone which bad come out of the soft water tank. and them, he suggested should be used on the road leading to the hospital. Instructions had been given for the pump to be repaired.

The accounts for the coat of alterations, amounting to £127 10s., were submitted by Mr. White and approved.

Additions to the Staff.

There were six applications for the post of assistant nurse and two of these appeared before the Board. They were Miss Eleanor Messenger (Sheffield) and Moe Kathleen Rose (Hull).

After considering the qualifications of the two candidates it was decided to appoint Miss Messenger to the position. She has had all her training at Stockton and possesses excellent testimonials.

For the position of probationer nurse there were five applicents who appeared. Their names were Miss Marie Corbett (Sheffield), Miss Simpkins (Denaby), Miss Edwards (Maltby). Miss Donaghue. and Miss Pick.

It was decided to have Miss Corbett on trial for one month, she being the most imitable applicant.

Medical Officer’s Report.

The Medical Officer reported that at the end of November there were 41 patients in the Hospital – 6 enteric’s, 2 diphtheria’s and 33 scarlet fever. There had been one death during the month.

With regard to the new Fire grates that were required, for of Doncaster, offered to the work for £7.15 s.

The Board decided to accept this tender

The Christmas Fare

the Mason’s report included a request for permission to provide a toy for each child, and also to obtain the usual Christmas Fare, including a goose each for the engineer and the gardener.

Mr Baker said that it had always been the role that they should have something extra, and he would move that the request being granted.

The Chairman: It is moved that the usual Christmas fare be provided, and in addition one goose each for the gardener and engineer. One of them Medical Office also, and the Clerk and Chairman? (Laughter.)

Precept

A precept for £800 was issued
