Conisboro’ Motorist’s Mishap

Child Knocked Down and Seriously Injured

An Unavoidable Accident

On Monday evening about 6-45 a serious motor-car accident occurred in Doncaster road, Conisboro’. Mr. S. Whitefield, haulage contractor, Conisboro’, and a friend, Mr. R. J. Clarkson, were occupants of a motor-car owned by the former gentleman, which was proceeding from Doncaster to Conisboro’. When near the cottages, situated at Don View, Doncaster road, Conisboro’, Mr. Whitefield swerved the car to avoid a passing vehicle. At the same instant a boy named John Wilson, aged 8 years, ran into the road from a passage in the buildings, and was knocked down by the car. The boy was carried into his home close by, and Dr. Caelure was speedily sent for, and on arrival he attended to the injured boy. The boy retained consciousness. On examination it was found that the boy was seriously hurt about his head, being partially scalped. His collar bone was also broken. On the advice of Dr. Maclure, Mr. Whitefield and Mr. Clarkson conveyed the injured boy in the car to the Doncaster Infirmary.

On making enquiries on Wednesday, we were informed that the boy was conscious, and getting on as satisfactorily as could be expected.

Mr. Whitefield and Mr. Clarkson did all in their power to alleviate the sufferings of the injured boy, and were in no way to blame for the unfortunate accident.
