Conisboro’ School Board

The usual monthly meeting of this Board was held in the Board-room, Conisboro’, on Thursday evening, the 5th inst.

R. Hills, Esq., in the chair; other members present—Messrs. Kilner, Greaves, Walker, and Wigfall—the minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

Tenders were received for supplying the schools with coal, when that of Mr. Hawkins, for 11s. 6d. per ton, delivered and put in their place, was accepted.

The Board then proceeded to discuss the long-standing question of disposing of the cottage property adjoining the churchyard, and occupied at present by Mr. E. Woolhouse. It appears that the Education Department will only consent to the Board disposing of the property at its market value, which was stated to be £150.

A somewhat lengthy conversation took place on the subject, the members generally being of opinion that the property should be bought by the vicar and churchwardens. Eventually it was resolved, on the motion of Mr. Hills, seconded by Mr. Greaves, that the cottage and site be offered to the vicar and churchwardens for the sum of £150, on condition that they agree to remove the cottage within a specified time.

It was stated that if any mortgage wished to see the books and accounts of the Board, they could do so at any reasonable time.

Accounts were ordered to be paid amounting to £64 1s. 6d., including repayment of loan, teachers’ salaries, &c.
