A Conisboro’ Yeoman.

Doncaster Rural Council’s New Chairman.

Mr. William Appleyard, of Beech House, Clifton, Conisborough, who has been appointed chairman of the Doncaster Rural District Council after a long experience of office on that authority, is a member of an old Yorkshire yeoman family.

He came to the Conisboro’ district forty years ago, and lived for thirteen years at The Lodge, Conisborough, before moving to Clifton.

He is a very successful farmer and stockbreeder, a splendid judge of a horse, and a bold and fearless rider. He has carried off prizes both at the Fitzwilliam Hunt steeplechases and at county agricultural shows, for riding and for stock.

He entered public life twelve years ago when he was elected to the Conisborough Parish  Council. Three years after he was returned to the Parish Council and was also elected to the Doncaster Rural District Council, and has served continuously on both authorities since he headed the Conisboro’ poll for the Parish Council and for the Rural Council.

For the last five years he has been chairman of the Highways Committee of the Rural Council; and for the last two years has been vice-chairman of the Council, under another Conisborough gentleman, Mr. Henry Baker.
