Conisborough   38 for 8  Wath  37

June 1899

Sheffield Independent – Monday 26 June 1899

Conisborough   38 for 8  Wath  37

In the Mexboro’ and District League, the encounter between Conisbro’ and Wath was a remarkably even match, the visitors, who batted first, securing just one run less than the home eleven.

Cort managed to take five wickets for 18 runs, and Hardy four for 17. There was no tall scoring on either side, G. Coit, not out, 11 being the highest. The vicar was bowled by Potts for 0.

While referring to the Wath players it is only apropos to point out that all lovers of athletics in the district sincerely lament the sudden decease of Mr. Spedding Whitworth, CC, JP., who gave the valuable grounds at Wath recently opened by Lord Hawke, and who always took a lively interest in the doings of the local clubs.
