The cricket season was well opened on Saturday at Conisborough, when the home team met, and defeated White Line in a Mexborough and District League fixture. There was a moderate attendance of spectators notwithstanding the bitterly cold weather. The home team included several new players. The New professional Foster delighted the spectators with his batting, and showed his ability with many beautiful clean hits.
In him Conisborough have found a man who, judging from his play should help them along in their League engagements. He did not come out very well in the bowling averages, though one can hardly expect him to get used to a pitch the first match.
The match proved to be very exciting, and Conisborough won with only five minutes to spare. White Lane wept in to bat with a very cold wind blowing across the ground. Owing to the late arrival of the visitors a start was not effected until four o’clock.
