“Got Broke Over The Lincoln.”
Conisborough Bookmaker Fined.
George Tinkler, described a bookmaker, of Conisborough, was on Saturday, Doncaster, summoned for street betting Conisborough on-the 22nd of April.
Mr. Baddeley appeared for defendant.
Sergeant Hayes said saw the defendant in conversation with several men. Three of the men gave him something which appeared to be money, which he -put into his pocket. He gave each of them something, which appeared to be a bit of paper.
Witness and Police-constable Cousans stopped him a little later, and searched him, and found 35s. 9d. in small silver in one pocket and £4 in another. They did not find any betting slips in his possession.
The defence was a complete denial of taking bets.
Defendant, in answer to his solicitor, said that he had some money left him some time ago, and bloomed out as bookmaker. He got “broke” over the Lincoln.
