Conisborough Celebrate a League Success

The annual dinner of Conisborough Cricket Club at the Star Hotel Conisborough, last Thursday was attended by about 60 members and friends. . Mr J.I. Webster (president) presided.

Mr Webster said that it ‘w a long time they had such an array of prizes. The club’s success in ‘winning the Doncaster League (Division IL) was a feat to be proud of. They only just missed another, The Doncaster Town’ C C. Knock-out Cup, in which they were runners-up.

The Rev. H. T Eddershaw (Vicar of Conisborough) said he was looking forward to spending many Saturday afternoons at the Conisborough cricket ground and was keenly awaiting the club’s knockout competition, which he had heard so much about. He then presented the Doncaster League cup to Mr. T. Kelly (captain) and individual prizes.

A gold wristlet watch was also presented to r. W. Thompson, the club secretary. Mr. Oster said Mr. Thompson had rendered t e club more than eleven years’ valuable se ice, both as player and official.

“The Club” was propose by. Mr. H. Moore, treasurer of Maltby C. C. and vice-president of the Rotherham Cricket League, who congratulated Conisborough C.C. on their success in the Doncaster League and for the financial’ position in which they were fortunate to be.

Mr. W., Thompson responding, said the club joined the Doncaster League 19 seasons ago; this was their first success. It was just thirty years since such a distinction came to the club-4in the Swinton Alliance League. The scorer, Mr. J. L Webster, received a gold medal. Twelve years ago they had a debt of £200, which had now been practically wiped out.

Mr. J. H. Dunk proposed ” The Visitors,” and this was responded to by Mr. 0. W. Baines, secretary of the Doncaster and District Cricket League, and former secretary of Burghwallis C.C., who said that now that the seniors had brought success to the club much depended on the younger ones to bring further success

The toast of “The President was proposed by Mr.’ G. W. Laughton, to which Mr. J. II. Webster replied.

Mi. W. Astbury proposed the “Host and Hostess,” and Mr. F. Lowe replied

A musical programme was given by Miss G. Payne, M. A. Carmody and Mr. H. Toseland.
