Conisborough Castle Football Challenge Cup.
Conisborough 1 Doncaster 0
This match being the last of the rounds of the above competition, attracted a large number of spectators to Conisborough on Saturday last, and produced some of the most spirited play seen this season.
At the commencement of the game, the weather was fine, and the turf in capital condition, but a strong breeze give the Conisborough team a decided advantage, they having won the toss. The captain started the ball at 3.30, and soon the fight was carried to the Doncaster quarters.
Conisborough found it no easy task to maintain this position, and presently they had to beat a retreat. Doncaster returned to the charge, and gaining possession, shot directly into the goal, but the keeper was true to his colours, and averted what seemed almost inevitable.
Up to this kicking on both sides had been too vigorous, considering the force of the wind, but having settled down, they showed capital form.
Ends having been changed, two corner kicks fell to Conisborough in quick succession, but neither prove productive; then follow some exceedingly fast play at the Doncaster posts, which were defended gallantly.
They were however at last defeated as, from an excellent middle by the captain of the Conisborough team, the ball was forced through the goal from this point.
Conisborough had the best of the game. Doncaster were unable to score, and thus the match resulted in favour of Conisborough, by one goal to none
