Conisborough Clerk Fined
Driving Without Consideration
A fine of £3 was imposed at Doncaster on Tuesday on Martin O’Donnell, clerk, Conisbrough, for driving a motorcycle without reasonable consideration for other persons using the road.
Inspector Wolfe said that Herbert Claire, Butcher, Denaby, at 9:20 a.m. on April 11, was driving a small van on Doncaster Road at Denaby in the direction of Mexborough. Two lorries pulled up on his nearside and he passed them by pulling out. While he was passing defendant passed him on the motorcycle. O’Donnell then swerved and pulled up in middle of the road. The road was very greasy owing to rain and Claire’s van bumped into the rear of O’Donnell’s motorcycle. O’Donnell had given no warning when he pulled up. Neither was badly damaged.
O’Donnell denied that the road was greasy, and said he thought that Claire was far enough behind to avoid a collision.
The chairman, Mr G. B. Schaffner, said it was a dangerous thing to do and there might have been a serious accident.
