Conisborough Concern
Future of Well-Known Bottle Factory
The Conisborough district has received a severe blow in an announcement concerning the future of Kilner Brothers, glass bottle manufacturers.
For about two and a half years the firm, which began at Conisborough in 1883 after starting at Thornhill Lees, near Dewsbury, in 1844, has been in charge of a receiver, and it is understood production is to cease in the near future.
Trading has improved during the past year, but it is felt it does not justify continued production. Until about two years ago more than 450 employees were engaged, and the firm has been remarkable for the large number of men who have seen lengthy periods of employment with the company. In some instances men have served the firm for nearly 70 years.
The original business at Thornhill Lees was closed about 1926.
