A Conisborough Constable Censured

At Doncaster West Riding Police Court, on Saturday Mr GBC Yarborough presiding, Alfred Wright, glassblower, Conisborough was summoned for being drunk and disorderly and William Wattam, labourer, also of Conisborough, was summoned for resisting the police.

Mrs CW Hall of Wakefield defended.

Police constable Pattison gave evidence and said, owing to the interference of Wattam and some women the defendant escaped just as he was about to handcuff him.

A public was called as a witness, and said he saw no disorderly behaviour on the part of Wright and Wattam seemed to him to be doing his best to get the man quietly home.

Mr Yarborough said the Bench did not think they could convict Wattam, in fact, he appears to have done his best to prevent a disturbance.

The police constable had not acted with the greatest discretion with regard to Wattam.

As for Wright he would also be discharged, there being insufficient evidence that he had been disorderly
