Conisborough Contractor’s Accident
It was with some concern that people of Conisbrough heard, on Saturday morning, of an unfortunate accident to one of the most respected inhabitants, Mr S. Whitefield, traction engine proprietor and haulage contractor.
It appears Mr Whitefield was taking one of his horses out of the stable onto the common lane about 7 o’clock. The animal was of a rather lively disposition and the halter was snatched out of his hand. At the same time the horse turned round and kicked Mr Whitefield on the hip.
He was attended to by Drs Craig and Foster was found to have sustained a fractured thigh. It is hoped that Mr Whitefield will speedily recover from his serious injury. Expressions of sympathy is being heard on all sides.
This however is only natural, for Mr Whitefield has resided in the village about 26 years, having been in haulage contractor for 22 years. The injured man was particularly well known at High Melton, having had connection with that place in the pursuit of his business, and Mr Whitefield has had an exceedingly kind letter from Mr White of high Melton, expressing regret at the accident and trusting that he would soon recover.
