Sheffield Daily Telegraph – Thursday 10 April 1930
“Wangle” Alleged.
Conisborough Council and Bus Licences.
Conisborough Council last night levied a rate of 9s. 2d. in the £ for the ensuing half-year, an increase of Is. 2d. in the £.
The Accountant , Mr. G. Brocklcsby, said an increase in the county call was responsible for the rise.
A recommendation that a licence be granted to the Yorkshire Traction Company to run a service from Doncaster through Conisborough Leeds, and that application by the South Yorkshire Company for a similar licence be held over for consideration, was carried.
During the discussion Mr. J. Webster said there was wangle somewhere, and that there was a secret service working on the Council.
Mr. H. Gillott said it was most unsavoury business, contending that if they granted one licence they should grant both.
The Chairman pointed out that no one had said that the other licence would be granted.
