Conisborough Girl Given Another Chance.

Nellie Lister (27), of Conisborough, a domestic servant, who has been in the employ of Councillor E. Wilburn, of Field Cottage, Town Fields, Doncaster, appeared at the Borough Court, yesterday, charged with housebreaking and stealing £7 10s. in money belonging to her employer.

Chief Constable Adams abandoned the charge of housebreaking.

On the morning of Monday, the 1st inst., the prisoner called Mr. Wilburn up at 6.45 and represented that someone had broken into the house, and she had found the dining-room in disorder and articles strewn about the room.

When questioned about the matter, prisoner denied all knowledge of the robbery. She was seen twice, and on Wednesday, when Detective Wells saw her, he told her he thought she knew something about the robbery, and got permission to examine her box.

She then said.  “I will tell you the truth. I took the money from the bag, and made the room in the disorder you found it.”

The Chairman (Alderman Kay) said they would give her another chance, and imposed a fine of 40s. or one month’s imprisonment.
