Kilner Brothers.
Conisborough has been agog with rumours regarding an industry second only in importance to coal mining in this township. Mr. George Kilner, managing director of Kilner, Bror., Ltd., stated in reply to inquiries that a receiver had been appointed and that the firm was ‘carrying on for the present.’ For nearly a century this firm has been world-famous and Conisborough hopes that it will long continue to be so.
Medical Report.
The quarterly report of the Medical Officer (Mr. J. McArthur), shows that there were 76 births in the township in the period under review giving a birth rate of 17.2, against that of 16.3 in the great towns. There were 44 deaths, giving a death rate of 9.9 against 11.9 in the great towns. Nine infants under one year died, giving a rate of 18.4 per thousand, against 59.1 for the great towns. Of infectious diseases notified there were 16 cases of scarlet fever, one of cerebrospinal fever, and four of diphtheria.
Clifton Feast.
A number of Conisborough people went over to Clifton for the Feast on Saturday afternoon and took part in the revelry, the weather being ideal for the occasion. A village fete was held as usual in Mr. W. Milner’s field, and was opened by the Mayoress of Doncaster, Mrs. H. H. Bone, who assisted by Dr. D. T. Clark and Nurse Sargon, judged a baby show. The entries, however, were of such a uniformly high standard that the prizes were distributed by lot. The Rev. W. J. T. Pascoe and Mrs. Pascoe, and the Rev. H. Atherton and Mrs. Atherton judged a fancy dress parade and awarded prizes as follows: – Girls: 1 Dorothy Harrison, 2 Christin Place; Boys: 1 Frank Jackson, 2 Frank Ratcliffe. The Rev. H. Atherton and the Rev. B. T. Croft assisted in organising children’s sports, and cycle events were arranged by the Conisborough Cycling Club, the prizes being won by W. Taylor, C. Martin, and J. Hodgson. The Denaby Ambulance Band played selections, and a cricket match was played during the afternoon. A male beauty competition was held, and two handsome young Clifton men tied for the prize. A very happy carnival ended with dancing in the village hall. The programme was organised by Mr. H. Harrison. The proceeds will be use for a seaside outing for the Sunday School children.
