Conisborough Notes – Friendly Societies – Local Man Missing

June 1908

Mexborough and Swinton Times June 13, 1908

Friendly Societies

There was quite a large procession of the local friendly societies in the Conisbrough Fire Brigade, as a march through the streets en route to Mexborough, where they were taking part in the annual Hospital demonstration.

They were accompanied by the local ambulance band and corps.

The Denaby contingent of the St John Ambulance Brigade also attended the demonstration.

Local Man Missing

The disappearance of a well-known figure in Denaby – namely J Thomas – who was employed at the Cadeby Colliery is causing some uneasiness in the village.

It has not been seen or heard of since last Monday week when he left home.

Fears are entertain that he has made away with himself by drowning.

It is just four years ago since his wife committed suicide.
