Conisborough Notes – Lively Week End – Bicycle Fever

July 1898

Mexborough and Swinton Times July 8, 1898

Lively Week End

I hear that it was quite lively in Doncaster Road, Conisborough on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon last

There were several fights, and one or two gentlemen I know will have good reason to remember them for a good while to come.

I hear that one gentlemen who lives in Conisborough, in addition to getting into jolly good row lost his watch and chain during the melee.

Bicycle Fever

I see the bicycle fever has broken out in several fresh places in Conisborough. Several gentlemen whom I should never I thought would indulge in this pastime, my now be seen gracefully (? ) wheeling about our streets. I am told one gentlemen resides on the ‘promenade’ has caught this fever so bad that he can’t sleep at night, and commences his ‘acrobatic’performance by 5 o’clock in the morning. So if you wish to see this gentleman learning the art of gracefully tumbling off and over a bicycle you will have to be one of the early birds.
