A Conisborough Obstruction.

John W. Barber, motor driver, of Conisborough, was summoned at Doncaster. On Wednesday for the rather unusual offence of leaving a large stone on the roadway in Station Hill, Conisborough.

P. C. Howard said Barber was driving a heavy lorry loaded with bricks and he stopped before topping the hill to get a large coping stone off a wall with which to “scotch” his lorry. On restarting he left the stone on the road. There were five men with the lorry.

The police pointed out that Station Hill, Conisborough was one of the most dangerous in the district.

Admitted putting the stone there but said he did a “to save an accident.” This stone was not left there 10 minutes.

He was fined 15 shillings,  the chairman (Mr Hinchcliffe) remarking that there might have been someone coming down the hill to run into it and cause an accident.
