Conisborough School Board

A meeting of the Conisboro’ School Board was held at the Board room last night, when there were present Messrs. C. Kilner (chairman), W. H. Chambers, B. G. Dufton, with Mr. G. Harrison (clerk), and Mr. W. Wilson (attendance officer).

The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed.

Messrs. J. Downing, W. W. Norwood and H. J. Sharp attended as a deputation to ask for the use of the Board room and boys’ school for the concert on Tuesday evening.

The Chairman thought it was for a good object and the Board consented.

The attendance officer said he had had the work for nine weeks, and he paid altogether 386 visits, with an average of 437 weeks, and this did not cover all the ground, because he had met the parents in the street.

The Chairman thought they should have a proper list.

Mr. Wilson said there were several who had not been to school regularly, and be had sent notices warning parents, and if they were not obeyed, legal proceeding; would be taken.

Mr. Dufton said there was another kind of notice which they should get, so that the teachers could send to the parents asking the cause of the non-attendance.

Mr, Wilson: With regard to Denaby, it was very difficult to get the attendance of children, because there were so many new streets, and not numbered when he was there last.

The Clerk said a case was lost last week at Doncaster, and it would do a lot of harm.

Mr. Wilson asked that the Board would authorise the printing of new attendance forms and this was agreed.

Miss A. Twitche, of Felkirk, Barnsley, was appointed assistant mistress.
