Mexborough & Swinton Times – Friday 08 September 1893
Conisborough School Board.
The usual monthly meeting of the above Board was held last night, Mr. B. J. Dufton in the chair. There were also present Messrs. W. W. Norwood, S. Whitfield, G. Kilner, and J. Pagdin, the Clerk, and the Attendance Officer.
Mr. Pagdin called attention to a case of misreporting in respect to the last meeting. He had been credited with the entire responsibility of opposing an increase in Mr. Smith’s salary, whereas the whole Board was responsible. He suggested that the Board take several matters in committee to prevent incorrect reporting.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, after which the Board discussed several attendance cases, and it was decided that the attendance officer should warn three of the offenders.
A long discussion took place on the subject of the attendance officer’s attention to the Denaby district, Mr. Whitfield and Mr. Pagdin contending that there was great ground for complaint, the manner in which the district was neglected.
Mr. Barlow (Attendance Officer) said he could not go to Denaby more than once a month for his present salary, and the subject was ultimately adjourned to noon, it being understood that the question would be discussed with a view to arranging with the attendance officer for the extra duties.
An application was read from Mrs. Gilmore, asking for an advance of £5 in her salary, and it was decided, after the recommendation of the inspector in her case, to consent to the application.
The deed of mortgage for a loan of £850 was presented for completion and signed and sealed by the Chairman in the presence of the Board.
A cheque for £300 was signed for the builder, Mr. Saville, on account of the alterations to the Conisborough Board School.
