Conisborough Notes – Spring Is With Us

May 1932

Mexborough and Swinton Times, May 6th, 1932

There are signs everywhere that Spring is with us, except in the weather, which remains cold except for occasional bright periods.

Since Friday the cuckoo has been heard over the Kearsley fields. The 4,000 daffodil plants are making a brave show in the Denaby Memorial Park. These are but the harbingers of 16,000 tulips, which will soon unloose a blaze of colour such as Denaby has never known before, for there are eleven “self” colours and a number of mixed tints.

It is gratifying to find that the flowers are being left untouched and are receiving the same considerate treatment as in Coronation Park.

Even the roadside beds of wallflowers are making a good show despite the fact that there is nothing to prevent dogs from roaming about and doing damage, the effect of this being noticeable on the verges.
