Conisborough Town 2 Gainsborough Trinity Reserve 3

These teams met at Conisborough on Saturday, before a large holiday crowd, and on a soft ground. The visitors brought their full strength, but the home team were minus four of their best players.

Harrison, winning the toss, elected to kick with the wind, and at 2.45 Lindley started the ball for the visitors, who were soon busy in front of the home citadel, and Barrett shot at goal. The homesters then had a turn, and Walker was called upon to save. Give and take play followed for a short time, until Whitehead got possession, and by a fast low shut scored the first goal amidst cheers.

The visitors, nettled at this reverse, pressed for a time, but could not get through the home defence. Lindley was here cautioned by the referee for foul play. Wood at length raced away, and passing to Purdy, the latter shot over. Nothing further was done up to half-time.

On changing ends, the visitors were first to attack, and the home citadel had many narrow escapes. Purdy made a run on the right, but was pulled up by Caistor, who drove the homesters back to their defence. The visitors kept up the pressure, and McCallum sent in a shot which beat Farrow for the first time. The visitors still pressed, and Curtis was responsible for the second point gained by Trinity. Purdy soon after equalised, the home forwards treating the spectators to a bit of neat passing.

Both teams now tried hard to gain the winning point, and the play was of a fast and exciting character. The visitors got away on the left, Purning centred, and Curtis scored.
