Conisborough Wesleyan Bazaar
On Wednesday and Thursday a Sale of Work took place in the Wesleyan schoolroom, the same being opened on Wednesday by Mr C. Kilner, who in a few appropriate words expressed his willingness to help in such work; also of the associations connected with that place of worship, and of the prospects for the future, which he considered were bright.
There was a very fair attendance at the opening, and during the day a good sale was affected by most of the stalls
A washing competition was to have been held on Wednesday, but was for some reason deferred until Thursday evening, which was open for young men and young women, when two prizes were offered by Messrs. Lever Bro’s – proprieties of sunlight soap;
First prize comprising a handsome case of electroplate teaspoons and tongs; second prize, 3 dozen cases sunlight soap.
There is also to be a millinery competition, exclusive for gentlemen, and also competitions for home-made confectionery and plum loaf.
Mrs W. J. Ward and Miss Sykes were judges of confectionery, etc., and awarded Mrs Sargentson first prize, Miss Sharp second for plum loaf, and Mrs. Meggitt first for tarts, and Miss Sharp first for cheesecake.
The following were the stallholders:
Fancy stall, Mrs W. J. Ward, Mrs H. J. Sharp, and Mrs W. Maxfield;
Plain Stall, Mrs T. Booth, Mrs Taylor, Mrs Dixon, Mrs Jas Appleyard, and Miss Goodlad;
Flowers, Mrs Kilner, Booth, and Bateson;
Toys. Miss Flint, and Miss R. Sharp;
Oranges, Master C. Oswald;
Refreshments, Mrs J. Meggitt, Mrs Sharpe, Mrs stoves, and Mrs Brocklesby;
Tea, Mrs. Platts and Mrs. Stenton.
The proceeds are to be devoted to refurnishing the ministers house, and it is expected that a good sum will be available for that purpose.
