Conisborough’s Water Problem – Dam in the Brook
The idea of putting a dam in the brook at the back of the Three Horse Shoes, so that a supply of water could be obtained for other than domestic purposes, is a good one, and if our local builders and tradespeople will only use it, it will greatly relieve our town well.
Coming down Church street I met a friend carrying two bucketfuls of water, which were certainly not fit to use for drinking, and he told me it was the best he could get at the town well.
“The well is nearly empty,” he said , “and the pumping stirs up the mud” ; and, continued he, ` “there is one of our tradesmen at the present time actually using what little water there is, to wash his trap!”
When we get this dam finished, I should imagine that they will not be allowed to use the water from the town well for anything except domestic purposes.
