Conisbro’ Boxing Hope
Gets Ticket To Denmark

December has been a very successful month for Conisbrough boxer, Tommy Joyce, who has now learned that he will be travelling to Scandinavia later this month to represent Scotland against Denmark.

The success began at Hemel Hemstead on December 11th with his return bout against English International welterweight. Terry Henderson. which was top of the bill at the luxurious Pavilion. This reversed the decision of three weeks before when he lost narrowly to Henderson.

Points win

On December 19th Joyce met the reigning Northern Counties A.B.A. Champion, Les Pearson. at the East End Park W.M.C.. Leeds. The bout, which was made particularly interesting by the two different styles of the boxers, was dictated most of the time by the fleet-footed Joyce, who brought off a fine points win.

Scotland have again asked Joyce to represent them this time in their match against Denmark, which will comprise contests in Copenhagen on January 12th, and in Alborg two days later. For this purpose Tommy has been cutting short his Christmas and New Year celebrations to train.

At Swinton

Local people will have a chance to see Joyce box when he lights an exhibition bout at Swinton Miners’ Welfare tonight (Friday). It is hoped that his opponent will be English International Allan Tottah.

The A.B.A. championships will be starting on January 19th when Tommy starts on the Wembley trail as a welterweight. His clubmate, Alan Ward, has also entered the Championships as light heavyweight.
