Conisbro’ Supports New Industry Plan.

In connection with efforts of five local authorities to attract new industry to South Yorkshire, Conisbrough Council on Wednesday agreed in principle to provide housing accommodation for key workers.

They also agreed to compile a list of private and Council owned land available for redevelopment and to contribute £25 towards the expenses of the consortium which also includes Dearne, Mexborough, Swinton and Wath Councils.

Key Workers.

Conisbrough Council, keen to extend the scope of industry beyond mining, has agreed in principle to provide housing for key workers but the decision is subject to individual applications being considered on their merits.

A suggestion that the Council delegate their powers over industrial development to a small subcommittee with plenary powers, was referred to the Development Committee for consideration.

The Conisbrough district was hard hit when a factory owned by I.C.I. and employing hundreds of local women, closed down two years ago. Since then efforts have been made to bring in light industry.

Efforts are now being channelled through the consortium, formed about two months ago at the request of Dearne Urban Council.
