January.

Denaby British Legion Treat to 1544 children.
Baptists decided to suspend morning services for three months.
Home Coal Carting Committee became absolute owners of Ferry Farm, with seven 100 lorries and four horses and cart.
Denaby Church Players gave four one-act plays.
Attempt to blow up 40,000 tons of limestone cliff failed owing to snow.
Smoker’s cabinet presented to Mr. George Smith by Denaby allotment holders.
Six councillors surcharged (surcharge remitted on appeal).
Council decided to erect mortuary.
Rate compounding resolution paired.
Coun. W. B, Wells retired from the service of the Denaby and Cadeby collieries after 54 years.
Mr. J. Marsh, checkweighman, retired after long service.
Lady Mabel Smith opened Child Welfare Centre at Old Road Pavilion

Mr. J. C. McFarlane, President of Denaby British Legion, won Leslie Rifle-Shooting Cup.
Clayton steam cars from Doncaster to Sheffield (Sundays) first run.
Denaby Parish Church endangered by smouldering wood under the Lady Chapel.
Nominations for every ward in Conisboro’. First time since 1925.
Mr N. Hulley – appointed manager of Maltby Main Colliery, Presentation to Mr. H. C. Harrison, retiring general manager of Yorkshire Amalgamated Collieries.

Council delegation to Rotherham Postmaster for increased facilities.
St. Peter’s Operatic Society raised £37 with “Cupid and the Ogre” for Conanby Mission Church.
Mr. C. Ledger and Mrs. W. Nicholson saved Mrs. Daniels from serious injury when her clothing caught fire at her home in Burcroft.

Scouts put out fire in Cadeby Pit Yard.
School children used Welfare Baths for organised swimming lessons for first time.
North Cliff Hills playground commenced.
Mr. A. Roberts, C.C., Chairman of U.D.C., pointed out that Council tenants were mistaken if they expected to live rent free.
150 Chickens burned in fire at Mr. W. Carter’s poultry farm.

Mr. K. Bateson took all ten wickets for 27 runs versus Aldwarke Park, in Doncaster League.

Opening of Middle School.
Mr. W. E. Saxton elected checkweighman of Cadeby No. 1 Colliery, in place of Mr. C. Bashforth retired.
Unknown man found dead in Kearsley Fields.
Denaby Feast revived after 30 years’ lapse.
Mr. J. Stott of Surveyors’ Department, Denaby and Cadeby Collieries, fatally injured in motor-cycle accident.
Council decided to spend £200 on playground equipment tor Minniemoor.
Council decided to ask for grant from Coalfields Distress Fund (£450 was received immediately and distributed).
Church House, given by Mrs. G. T. Nicholson, opened.
Ambulance Choir won a prize at Cleethorpes Sunday School trip to Cleethorpes.

July.

Cricket Club decided to turn bowling green into tennis courts.
Clifton Field fete marred by first rain for a month. Despite this a profit of £32 was made.
Only rain for weeks stopped Denby cricket on two successive Thursdays.
17th Anniversary of Cadeby disaster.
Cadeby miners decided in favour of pit head baths.
Mrs L.A. Allport (71) former postmistress, died at Woodhall Spa.
Mr. V. Rose (81), retired enginewright of Cadeby Colliery, died (40 years with Denaby and Cadeby Colliery Company).

August.

Street lamps lighted (one month earlier than usual).
Mr A. Wilson, bandmaster of Conisboro’ Band, died (71).
Conisboro’ failed in Cutts Cup final (cricket),
Fire at Messrs. Braim and Cooper’s fat refinery.
250 Old folk given outing to Hooton Pagnall.
Recreation Moll extension opened.
Mr. L. S. Root, B.Sc left Denaby for Cathedral College, Rangoon.

Yorkshire mineworkers’ District Nurse commenced duty.
New “soft” water arrives at rate of 70,000 gallons per day.
Mr A. Roberts, J.P., C.C., appointed vice chairman of W.R.C.C. Public Health Committee.
Primitive Methodist Church wired for electric lighting.
Conisboro’ Cricket Club won championship’ of Doncaster League, Div. 2B.
St. Andrew’s Mission Church dedicated by Bishop of Sheffield.
Mr. B. Piper, secretary of Druids’ Lodge for 30 years, resigned, on leaving district.
Mr. Tom Williams, M.P., opened new children’s playground on North Cliff Hills.
Wombwell knocked Denaby United out of English Cup in preliminary round.
Church Farm fire.
Dutch barn and all stacks destroyed.
Denaby bowlers win Rotherham Amateur League for fifth time.
Denaby lady bowlers won Montagu Cup and were runners-up in Fullerton Cup.

October.

Council faced with big financial problem owing to reduction in colliery assessments.
Sgt. Sparrow retired after 35 years in W.R. Constabulary.
Sgt. Waugh replaced Sgt. Sparrow.
Mr. Dan Dalton (50) found dead in bed.
St. Alban’s S.C. Debating Society inaugurated.
Council levied rate of 8s. in the 1, as previous half-year.

Mr. James Proctor, of Pool-in-Wharfedale, appointed headmaster of Morley Place Boys’ School.

Council conditionally decided to take over Welfare Swimming Baths.

Robert Lawley (16), son of Denaby United’s trainer, killed in Denaby pit.

Death of Coun. W. B. Wells (75), member of Conisboro’ U.D.C. from 1921, and its sixth chairman.
Council spent a long time debating unemployment.
Scheme outlined for making football ground for school children on Burcroft Meadows, owned by the Home Coal Carting Committee.
Two houses gutted by fire in Conanby and the families rendered homeless.
