Conisbrough Grocer’s Bankruptcy
The Official Receiver for the Sheffield District has sent to creditors the statement of the affairs of George Michael Alpine, of Part Road, Conisbrough, a grocer, who has been adjudged bankrupt.
The first meeting of creditors in the matter is to be held at the Official Receivers Office, Fig tree Lane, Sheffield on Wednesday, January 25 at noon, and the public examination of the debtor is fixed for February 9th at the Sheffield County Court.
According to his own statement of his affairs debtor owes £403 13s 2d 222 unsecured creditors, and estimates his assets as follows:
The cause of failure is alleged by debtor are: “Denaby strike, sickness, bad trade and bad debts.”

The bank of commence business as a grocer and general dealer about some years ago the capital of £40. His wife was attended to the business whilst your folders employment as an Under Deputy at the Denaby Main Colliery at an average wage of 30 shillings a week. Part of the fences claimed by the debtor’s wife, which, he says, was given to her by her employer and friends before and after marriage. He states that he became aware of his insolvent condition 18 months ago, and during the past three years there have been no profits made in the business
No account has been kept of receipts and payments and he accounts for his deficiency as follows:
