Conisbrough Hospital

Serious Shortage Of Staff

The opinion that part of the hospital would soon have to be shut up if there were not additions to the nursing and domestic staffs, was offered by Dr. W. J. MacLure (Medical Superintendent), at a meeting of Doncaster and Mexborough Joint Hospital Board at Conisborough Isolation Hospital on Wednesday, the Chairman (Coun. T. Baynham J.P.) presiding.

There had been three resignations from the staffs reported at the meeting and the Matron (Miss. A. Symington) reported that another member of the staff would be resigning in the next few weeks.  The Matron said that the local Labour Exchange had told her they had no-one suitable, and when she applied to the nursing pool at Sheffield for probationers a few weeks ago there was none available.

The House Committee had instructed the Clerk (Mr. R. Bowers) to inform the Ministry of Labour and National Service that it was imperative that the vacant positions should be immediately filled. The Clerk said that he had had no reply to that letter. It was resolved that the Clerk should enquire at the local Labour Exchange and failing satisfaction they should forward a reply to the Ministry of Health.
