Conisbrough Ivanhoe Angling.

Fishermen of Conisbrough Ivanhoe Working men’s club angling section gathered at the club on Sunday for the presentation of awards after their annual fishing match three weeks ago.

Mexborough bookmaker, Mr Stanley Breakwell made the presentation of the first prize – the John Adams Memorial Trophy – to matchwinner Mr Bill Ratcliffe of 88 Northcliffe road, Conisbrough, who claimed the victory with a catch of former 1 lb. 9 oz.

Miss Ratcliffe also received a replica trophy – the Stan Breakwell Coal – plus a tankard in recognition of landing the competition’s largest fish.

Second, and also presented with a tankard, was Edward Clark of Thirlwalll Avenue, with a catch of 8 ½ ounces, and third was Arthur Turner, of Lewes road, with 5 1/2 ounces.

Unfortunately, the competition, which was fished at Laird’s bank, Meadville, on the Hob hole Drain, near Boston, Lincolnshire, suffered from pollution, and of the 40 members who took part, only about a dozen and anything to show at the days end.

Total catch did not exceed four pounds.
