Conisbrough Man and his Ticket

A Conisbrough wood feller, named Henry Allison, was summoned by inspector Arthur Hall (G.C.Railway) for travelling on the railway without paying his fare, and with intent to avoid payment.

On July 12 he applied at the Conisbrough station for a monthly ticket for himself and son between Conisbrough and Medge Hall. They were issued to him on the following day, and expired July 12.

In consequence of certain information, however, on July 18 he was watched, and when he arrived at Conisborough he was asked to produce his ticket. He produced the tickets, the dates which have been clumsily altered.

Defendant pleaded that the tickets were issued on June 17, and did not expire until July 18. He denied having tampered with themA.

He was fined 20 shillings in each case.
