Accident

When David Cartwright (5) was playing with his friend, David Flennel, in Athelstane Road Conisbrough, on Friday, they exchanged their tricycles. David Cartwright lost control of the strange machine and ran from the top of the road which is incline of about one in 6 to the bottom (about 100 yards) and flew straight through a hedge.

He sustained slight injuries to his head. David, the fifth son of Mr and Mrs S Cartwright, of Halifax Road, was due to start at Balby Street junior school after the holidays, but will not now be starting as he is detained in Fullerton Hospital, Denaby.

What saved him from worse injury was the fact that the machine hit the curb at the bottom of the street and threw him over the handlebars otherwise instead of going through the hedge he would have hit a wooden fence.

Met in Paris

The Reverent G.F.Braithwaite returned from his touring holiday in Europe last week with the news that he had a chance encounter with the Rev J.E.P.Edwards in Paris. Mr Edwards, a former Methodist minister at Conisbrough, left three years ago to take a post in Lancaster.

Last year it was heard that he was in the English church in Paris, doing incredible work amongst English residents and tourists. Mr Braithwaite spent an evening with Mr Edwards and they saw a famous Parisian landmark, the Church of the Sacre Coeur (Sacred Heart). Here the party saw an art exhibition. Mr Braithwaite was overjoyed at meeting him, saying that Mr Edwards sent his regards and best wishes to friends in Conisbrough.
