Arthur Stephenson, of 107, Windmill Avenue, Conisbrough, captain of Doncaster Plant Works team which entertained the French railway scheme at Doncaster. Plant at Doncaster have been taking part in a series of exchange visits with the team, A.S. Cheminots , for about six years. This year it was the turn of the French team to visit this country.

The visitors won 3-1 but presented Plant works with a bronze winged trophy to mark the occasion. Their visit to Doncaster was as much as social occasion as one for a game of football.

Mr Stevenson told the South Yorkshire Times this week that the match was played in the morning to enable their visitors to spend some time shopping in Doncaster. In the evening they were entertained to dinner at the co-operative Cafe, Doncaster and on Sunday evening to a “free and easy” at the plant works athletic club.

Next Year’s Hopes

“we had a little difficulty with the language, but some of their players could speak English,” said Mr Stevenson. “Some of the team brought their wives and children and they all said how much they had enjoyed the visit.” He added, Mr Stevenson said that he was hoping very much to go over to France with the plant works team next year.

Mr Stevenson has only played four plant works this season. He has had a very wide football experience. From Conisbrough
