Conisbrough Player Hits Four of Wanderers Six Goals

The Conisbrough lad, Geoff Church, was again in the limelight, with Wath Wanderers, scoring four of the Wanderers 6 goals in the Hatchet league match against Shardlows at Brampton

Geoff, who used to play with Schofield Technical School, has shown wonderful promise in recent weeks. 19 years of age, he has already had a run at inside right with Mark Crooks, Wolves juniors.

The Wanderers had the run of the game all through to win by decisive margin of 6 – 0. Five of their goals were scored in the second half during which Shardlow’s were hardly entering the picture.

The other goalscorers were centre forward Roy Bunting and outside right George Hirst. There was some grand work in the match by the Wanderers right half, David Hirst, who hails from Mexborough but is no relation of George. The Wanderers were also well served by Bill Reid.

Pick of the Shardlow’s players was their 15-year-old outside right, Webster. It was a “Bevin” for the Wanderers goalkeeper.
