After 34 Years Teaching
Conisbrough Retirement Ends 70 Years Family Tie
The retirement today (Friday) of Miss Alicia Dufton, a member of the staff at Conisbrough Station Road Junior School for 34 years, severs a family educational connection with the area of more than 70 years.
Miss Dufton, of 25, Windmill Avenue, Conisbrough, will be presented with an electric clock and radio on behalf of past and present pupils, staff and the P.T.A. by Aid. B. Roberts during a carol service at the school this afternoon.
Miss Dufton’s grandfather, the late Mr. Benjamin Garret Dufton was chairman of the old Conisborough Board of Governors in the 1880’s.
Miss Dufton began her teaching career at Denaby Balby Street School, where she served both in the infant and junior departments. After four years she moved to Conisbrough and has been deputy head teacher at Station Road for a number of years.
Miss Dufton regularly receives letters from many of her old pupils and is usually inundated with correspondence at this time of the year.
She will leave the district to reside at Scarborough early in the New Year.
