At Friday’s meeting of the executive of Conisbrough Savings Committee, when Miss G. Packwood presided, plans for Thanksgiving week, to be held from November 3rd to 10th, went ahead.

The opening ceremony, which will probably take place in the Epworth Hall, will be performed by Lieut-colonel O. D. Rolland, O. B. E., and musical items will be given by the Don Valley Choral union, led by Mr. Arthur Butler.

Sunday is to be Churches Day, and ministers will make reference to the week in services during the day.

On Monday the band of the K.O.Y.L.I. will parade through the principal streets and give a concert in one of the schools. Tuesday will be reconstruction day, and arrangements are in the hands of the Conisbrough councillors, who will address public meetings, and the council officials, who will provide display vehicles and an exhibition layout of post-war house planning. Wednesday is to be schools today, and it is hoped that in the evening there will be a concert in the Station Road schools. Thursday is to be you and the future day, and all the attractions will be provided by the younger folk . The army cadet courts will arrange a demonstration, and a torchlight parade. Friday is to be merchant navy day, and a whist drive has been arranged.

The week will close on Saturday with a dance, and for this event it is hoped that the large Hall will be available.

Mr. J. Rowbottom, assistant regional Commissioner, was present at the committee’s meeting for the last time. He had been transferred to the Leeds area.

The chairman and other members expressed their regret at losing the services of Mr. Rowbottom, who had at all times given valuable assistance and advice to the committee, and wished him luck in his new sphere. Mr. Rowbottom, thanking the committee for their good wishes, said he was sorry to sever a happy association.
