Conisbrough Schools Basketball Team Plays In London.
They are no Harlem Globetrotters but Conisbrough Northcliffe school gave two school basketball teams a scare when they visited London recently. The boys took up the game seriously in September of last year and since then they have improved by leaps and bounds.
While pupils of the school were down in London they selected a representative side to play Preston Manor School, who included two county players, and Christopher Wrens school, whose team included one county player. They lost 28 – 9 to Manor, but were only defeated by narrow margin of four points 44-40 by Christopher Wrens school.
Friendlies at Swinton
Mr D.L. Steels, physical education teacher at Northcliffe school told me this week (says Brian Kelly), that the only other secondary school in the area of a decent standard of play was Swinton and in friendly contest with the school Northcliffe had lost all but one game.
Mr steels said that they were helping to run friendly matches with other interested schools next season.
