The only new face on Conisborough Council will be that of Mr Alfred Swaby, of 51 Bolton Street, Denaby Main.

Born in Denaby 49 years ago, he has lived in this area all his life with the exception of three years, when he was at Frickley colliery for two years and at Brierley colliery for the other.

He began work at Denaby colliery at the age of 13, and when he came back in 1921, he commenced at Cadeby colliery, where he is still employed.

Since 1929 he has been the holder of the following positions: treasurer of the Cadeby Main branch of the Y.M.A.; treasurer of the general purposes fund at Cadeby Main; and on the committee of the mutual aid fund (minus pensions). He is also a trustee of the Cadeby pit-head baths.
