Mr P McDonald
(Independent Ex-Serviceman)

Native and resident of Denaby. Started work at Denaby Main Colliery, underground at 13. Joined Army in 1915, at 18, served overseas, when he contracted beri beri. Discharged medically unfit in 1919.

Now an insurance agent an active member of Mexborough branch of Liverpool Victoria Workers Union.

Aged 37. Has lived in His Ward all his life and is now in business there as a fish fryer.

Chairman of Conisbrough Cricket Club, treasurer of Conisbrough Working Man’s Cooperative Society and former secretary of Denaby United Supporters Club.

A native of the East Ward.

Mr J Wright
(Labour)

Secretary of Conisbrough branch of transport and General workers Union and nominee for Ministry of health appeals Tribunal at Mexborough.

A former warehouseman, he was formerly for 10 years in the employ of Conisbrough Urban Council and for 14 years before that with Denaby and Cadeby Main Collieries.

South Ward

County Councillor B. Roberts, J.P.
(Labour)

Vice chairman of Conisbrough Urban Council and previously chairman of the local authority.

Checkweighman at Cadeby Main colliery and former president of Cadeby NUM branch. Chairman of Conisbrough Food Control Committee and for more than 15 years Conisbrough representative on the West Riding County Council.

Mr S.A.Swift
(Independent)

Aged 32. Born in the South Ward and still resides in it.

An ironmonger in business in Church Street. Was formerly in business in new Hill, but relinquished his connection in 1940 and entered the service of Ministry of aircraft production. He reopened his business in 1945 on release from war service.
