Conisbrough Urban District Council Results
County Councillor B Roberts record poll in the South Ward, the highest ever recorded in any Conisbrough Urban Council election, and the heavy East Ward vote was a feature at Conisbrough.
Councillor Roberts retained his seat for Labour and Mr H.S.Peet recorded a gain for Ratepayers from Independents by securing the East Ward seat.
Mr J Wright (Labour) gained more votes in the East Ward than he did last year, but the majority by which he was beaten on Saturday was more than double that of 1947.
The poll was declared shortly before 9 PM by the Returning Officer (Mr R.W.Birch) to a crowd of about 50.
Result:
East: H.S.Peet (ratepayers) 616, J Wright (Labour) 405, P McDonald (Independent ex-serviceman) 69
South: Mr B Roberts (Labour) one, 115, F.A.Swift (Independent) 346
North: T Davey (Labour) unopposed
Denaby: C.W.Wright (Labour) unopposed
West: R.H.Shepard, unopposed
