Conisbrough VE celebrations
Street parties for children seemed to be the most popular form of celebration during victory week.
Almost every street had tables laid out in the middle of the street, and the fun went on till late evening or early morning according to the weather conditions.
Games for the children were organised in some streets and there was dancing to the music of piano accordion, radio sets and gramophones.
Bonfires were made and each one had its effigy strung up on a gibbet.
Street decorations were quite equal to those seen during the Jubilee or coronation celebrations.
