Conisborough Woman’s Injuries
On Tuesday Ernest Wagstaffe motor driver, of Carr Road, Edlington employed at Doncaster by a newspaper firm, was charged at Doncaster Borough Court with having driven a motor van to the danger of the public.
Mr. W. L. Crawford defended.
Miss L Ryan of 43 Ivanhoe Road Conisborough, who was on crutches, said between 1.30 and 2 o’clock on December 21 she was crossing the road at the marketplace end of Scott Lane, Doncaster. She was in company with her sister, who was very deaf.
She had reached the other side of the pavement when something struck her. She had not heard any warning of approaching motor traffic. There was nobody about, and she could have heard a pin drop. Her injuries consisted of a badly sprained and crushed leg.
The defendant said that the road was greasy as he came along the marketplace and he approached Scott Lane at about 8 miles an hour. He sounded his hooter. The woman hesitated, he applied his brakes, but the van skidded and caught Miss Ryan.
A fine of £3 was imposed.
