Dances

Vindication of Conisbrough Urban Council’s Baths Sub-Committee’s policy in persevering with their municipal dancing project at the Baths Hall, Denaby, was forthcoming at Wednesday’s meeting of the Council.

When the weekly civic dances were first launched the success that had been expected did not occur, but Coun.  G. Cheshire (picture) and  his colleague s were convinced that they had something good to offer the dancing public.

They Introduced novelties and first class dancing entertainment and their enterprise has reaped happy dividends.

The income at the Baths Hall during the past year, Coun Cheshire said on Wednesday, was £1,351 12s. 1d. Renovations, repairs and the upkeep of the property and a fair contribution to the rate fund accounted for £1,072 14s. 6d. leaving the Committee a profit of £208 17s. 7d. “Members will be gratified that the Baths Hall has been able to make a substantial profit during this year’s activity.”

Coun. I. Houghton paid tribute to Coun. Cheshire for his enthusiastic work during the year. No small measure of the credit, said Coun. Houghton was due to him.
