Conisbrough’s First Schools  Gala For 20 Years

Conisbrough’s Urban Council’s first inter school swimming gala for over 20 years was held in Denaby baths last night (Thursday) before a large crowd of parents, pupils and councillors.

Five junior schools and two senior schools competed.

The junior school swimming shield was won by Denaby Rossington Street, and was presented to the school by the vice chairman of the Council, Counc. R. H. Shepherd.

Only two schools competed in the senior events, Denaby St Albans and Conisbrough Northcliffe. Northcliffe won 10 of the 11 events.

Final placings were – juniors: 1 Rossington St, 54 points; 2 Conisbrough Station Road school (33); 3 Bowlby St (25 ½); 4 Morley Pl (25): 5 St. Alban’s (10 ½).

Chairman of the baths committee, Coun. G. Cheshire, said it was hoped to meet the event an annual one and in future it was hoped that a Conisbrough team would challenge other towns in the district.

Presenting the shield, Coun. Shepherd said he had witnessed a grand display of keenness.
