Corpse Burnt at The Wakes

A family living in Marr Street, New Conisborough, had the misfortune to lose a relative by death last week, and the Wakes were kept up last Saturday night in the usual fashion of dancing, etc,, round the corpse.

In some unaccountable manner, the bed clothes caught fire, partially burning the body, but the fire was soon extinguished.

Such objectional practices ought at least to be rid of the danger of fire.
