Mexborough and Swinton Tines, April 22nd, 1932

Mr. Frank Burns is a native of Conisbrough and went to live at Swinton after residing at Bolton and Wath. He has lived at Swinton for 36 years and was elected to the Council five years ago. He has been chairman of the Water Committee for two years and has represented the Council on the Regional Water Supply Committee. For four years he has been a member of the Library Committee and has been on the Ambulance Committee since its inception.

He has served on the Management Board of the Montagu Hospital for eight years and was last year made a trustee of the Swinton Welfare Scheme. Thirty-eight years ago, he began work at Manvers Main where he is still employed, and for the last two year she has been delegate of the branch of the Yorkshire Miners’ Association.

For many years he was prominently associated with the Roman Terrace Hospital Sunday movement and has done much work for the Old Folk’s Treat movement.

During his term as vice-charman of the Council last year he was handicapper by ill-health and only got back to work a fortnight ago after 20 weeks absence.

In his youth he was a prominent player of Swinton Strollers F. C. and played with Mexboro’ part of the time in the Midland League.
